Free Sensitization & Discounted Cervical Screening — All March.
Because every woman deserves the right to health.
This International Women's Day (IWD), celebrated under the global theme "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment," we are called to move from commitment to action. While we celebrate the social and economic transformation of women — a key focus in South Sudan this year — we must also confront a silent thief of that progress: cervical cancer.
As the fourth most common cancer in women globally, cervical cancer claimed approximately 350,000 lives in 2022 alone. Yet, it remains one of the most preventable and curable forms of the disease. On this day of empowerment, the most radical act of self-care a woman can take is to claim her right to health through regular screening.
It is important to remember that screening is not a test for cancer; it is a test to prevent it. By using high-performance tests to detect human papillomavirus (HPV) or precancerous cell changes, we can intervene long before they turn into invasive disease. When caught early, cervical cancer is almost 100% treatable.
To meet the World Health Organization's global 2030 targets, 70% of women should be screened with a high-performance test by age 35, and again by age 45. This Women's Day, we must #AccelerateAction. We urge all individuals between the ages of 25 and 49 to schedule a screening today, and for those with daughters aged 9–14, to ensure they receive the lifesaving HPV vaccine.
